    Integrated Child Development Services Scheme (ICDS) Zilla Parishad Nagpur

    Integrated Child Development Services Scheme (ICDS) is a centrally sponsored scheme launched on 2 October 1975. This scheme was started on a pilot basis in two projects in Maharashtra, Dharani (Amravati) and Dharavi (Mumbai). The main objective of this scheme is to improve the nutritional status of children and reduce child mortality and malnutrition. A total of 20 Child Development Project Offices are functioning in Nagpur district. Out of which: 12 projects are in rural areas, 01 project is in tribal areas, 07 projects are in urban areas. There are a total of 3404 approved Anganwadi centres in Nagpur district, of which 2212 are in rural areas and 1192 are in urban areas.

    Objectives of the scheme

    To improve the nutritional and health status of children in the age group of 0 to 6 years

    To lay a solid foundation for the mental, physical and social development of children

    To reduce child mortality, morbidity, malnutrition and school dropout

    To achieve effective coordination in policy and implementation among various departments for child development
