Introduction

Role and Scope of the Department

Various central and state government schemes are implemented through Rural Water Supply Department, Zilla Parishad Nagpur to provide safe, sustainable and quality drinking water to the citizens of rural areas.

The following major works are carried out by the department:

Planning and implementation of rural tap water supply schemes
New borewells, wells and source development
Construction of elevated storage tanks (ESR) and water purification plants
Laying and expansion of pipelines
Water scarcity relief measures
Scheme maintenance and repair works

Schemes

Jal Jeevan Mission

Jal Jeevan Mission is an ambitious scheme of the Government of India and the main objective of the scheme is to provide functional household tap connection (FHTC) to every rural household.

Objectives:

Connection of drinking water through tap to every rural household
Supply of at least 55 liters of water per person per day
Ensuring water quality and safety
Source sustainability and water conservation measures
Water supply management at the Gram Panchayat level

Implementation:

The Rural Water Supply Department is responsible for the implementation of the scheme, plan planning, technical approval, preparation of budget, supervision and quality control of the works.

Other Funds and Schemes

To strengthen water supply facilities in rural areas, the department implements works through the following funds and schemes:

9 PHE Fund

For small and medium scale water supply works.

PMKKKY (Pradhan Mantri Khanij Kshetra Kalyan Yojana)

Improvement of water supply and basic facilities in villages in mineral areas.

15th Finance Commission Fund

For water supply and sanitation works at the Gram Panchayat level.

District Planning Committee (DPC) Fund

Approval and implementation of schemes as per district level priorities.

Water Scarcity Programme

Temporary and permanent measures in villages affected by scarcity during the summer season.

Scheduled Caste and Neo-Buddhist Development Programme

Providing water supply facilities.

MLA Local Development Fund

Works related to water supply as per local needs.

MP Local Development Fund

Strengthening rural infrastructure and water supply.

Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0

Works related to solid and liquid waste management as well as sanitation and water management.
