    Introduction

    India is an agriculture dominated country and the share of agriculture sector in the gross national income of the country is 13.7%. There is a need to increase agricultural income and for this modern agricultural technology, improved seeds, fertilizers, tools, crop protection drugs etc. Department of Agriculture, Zilla Parishad, Nagpur is working with the aim of making the goods available to the farmers at a reasonable price at the right time and to create awareness among the farmers. The geographical area of Nagpur district is 9,81,000 hectares and the general area under net crop is 5,93,800 hectares. The general area under kharif crops is 4,66,000 hectares and the area under rabi, summer crops is 80,600 hectares. There are total 13 panchayat committees in the district and out of them Nagpur, Hingana, Kalameshwar, Katol, Narkhed, Savner talukas, the main crops are cotton, sorghum, tur, soybean, groundnut and Ramtek, Mauda, Parshivani, Bhiwapur, Umred, Kuhi talukas are rice, chilli and soybeans. These are the main crops. The average annual rainfall of the district is 1138.86 mm. And the average rainfall from June 1 to October 31 is 834 mm. is Agriculture Department is an important department of Zilla Parishad and Agriculture Development Officer looks after the work of this department as Member Secretary. With a view to raising the social and economic level of farmers by all-round development, schemes for individual benefit and public benefit are continuously implemented. The work of reaching these schemes to the people of rural areas is done through this department. Scheme to provide financial assistance to farmers belonging to Scheduled Castes / Neo-Buddhist groups.

    Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Agricultural Self-Reliance Yojana as well as Adivasi Remedies Yojana (OTSP) and TSP. Schemes are implemented through this department. It is also the responsibility of the Agriculture Department of Zilla Parishad to grant license to the Agricultural Service Center which supplies agricultural inputs and to ensure the chemical letters received in the district and issue its certificate for subsidy. Also, crop protection equipment, distribution of improved agricultural implements, crop protection scheme, national biogas and fertilizer management program scheme, Zilla Parishad cess fund scheme are being implemented continuously. In the case of seeds, chemical fertilizers and pesticides, the responsibility for quality control work is carried out through the Department of Agriculture, Zilla Parishad, Nagpur.
