    National Rural Drinking Water Programme:-

    As per the 73rd constitutional amendment, emphasis has been placed on empowering Panchayat Raj organizations to address various infrastructural issues in rural areas. While implementing any program, the working system should be adopted considering the active participation of the people in the rural areas. In this regard, the Government of Maharashtra has adopted a demand-based water supply policy based on public participation in rural areas as per the government decision dated 27th July 2000 in the water supply policy. According to this policy, Central government sponsored enhanced speed program, state government sponsored, minimum requirements program, all these programs have been integrated in the Center Sponsored Bharat – Nirman Program during the period of 2005 to 2009 and the implementation of these policies has been implemented. From the year 2009-10, the central government has started the National Rural Drinking Water Program to solve the problem of drinking water in rural areas. The aim and vision of the said program is as follows.

    National Objective :- To provide adequate and safe water to every person for drinking, cooking and other basic needs consistently, regularly and easily in all circumstances, maintaining the minimum quality of drinking water.

    Vision :- To always provide safe and sustainable drinking water in rural India

    Planning method for water scarcity relief :-

    According to the Groundwater Act, the Groundwater Survey and Development System prepared a possible water shortage report based on the study of rainfall and ground water level in monitoring wells. To submit to the Collector to declare potential water shortage areas As per the Government Decision of 3rd February 1999 and as per the Government Decisions of 27th February 2008 and 25th October 2008 all Gram Panchayats should study the situation in the village and submit a resolution regarding whether or not there is water scarcity. As well as preventive measures to prevent water shortage in the future, Shiva’s water storage scheme and Maharashtra rural employment Proposing useful works under the scheme. Rural Water Supply Department, G.P. Through scrutinizing the said resolution and preparing a possible water shortage action plan period wise, village wise, measures wise. Possible water scarcity plan Hon. Taking the approval of Collector. Surveying the villages included in the scheme through Geologist as per the recommendations made in Form B. Administrative approval of Collector is taken. Hon. Remedial plans are implemented after receiving administrative approval from the Collector.

    Dalit Settlements :- Though plans have been taken to provide drinking water facilities and toilets under the regular program of the government, these facilities have not been adequately provided in the scheduled caste and neo-Buddhist settlements of the state. Considering these matters, on the occasion of the golden jubilee year of the state, the government was considering implementing a special scheme to provide private taps and personal toilets to families belonging to scheduled castes and neo-Buddhist groups in rural areas. Accordingly, the program is being implemented.
