Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Zilla Parishad Nagpur
The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) is a centrally sponsored scheme launched on October 2, 1975. The scheme was initially started on a pilot basis in two projects in Maharashtra: Dharni (Amravati) and Dharavi (Mumbai). The main objective of this scheme is to improve the nutritional status of children and reduce child mortality and malnutrition. A total of 20 Child Development Project Offices are functioning in Nagpur district. Of these: 12 projects are in rural areas, 01 project in tribal areas, and 07 projects in urban areas. Nagpur district has a total of 3404 sanctioned Anganwadi centers, with 2212 in rural areas and 1192 in urban areas.
The following services are provided under the ICDS scheme:
Supplementary Nutrition. Pre-school Education. Nutrition and Health Education. Immunization. Health Check-ups. Referral Services
Objectives of the Scheme:
To improve the nutritional and health status of children in the 0-6 years age group.
To lay a strong foundation for the mental, physical and social development of children.
To reduce child mortality, morbidity, malnutrition and school dropout rates.
To achieve effective coordination in policy and implementation among various departments for child development.
